Food Tents

published: 11 March 2009 | number of views: 1875

The four FoodTents erected at schools in Khayelitsha were sponsored by PSG Konsult and the one in Tygervalley by CAP Chartered Accountants.

A FoodTent is a simple and effective solution that enables the underprivileged to grow their own fruit and veggies in a sustainable and cost-effective way. FoodTents have been developed in response to the extensive lack of food security that many fellow South Africans face daily.

We are currently exploring the feasibility of FoodTent grow zones in specific areas like Stellenbosch. These are clusters of 10-20 food tents managed centrally in an area, again to provide fruit and veggies for the underprivileged, but where resources are pooled to be more efficient and to create a sense of belonging in communities. The feasibility study is being well received by the Stellenbosch community. The study is being sponsored by Pioneer Foods.
