Heart, winner of the Emerging Social Enterprise at the Southern African Social Entrepreneurial Awards in Johannesburg, manages 22 social enterprises in it’s portfolio, all helping to alleviate different social problems in South Africa. Wines with Heart, a unique wine industry collaboration, generates income through the sale of donated wine to assist NGOs in the winelands that care for severely disabled children as a result of foetal alcohol syndrome. Wines with Heart also funds projects to educate pregnant mother not to consume alcohol, thus preventing the disease.
Heart hosted 87 guests at the launch of it’s first Wines with Heart event where top corporates, NGOs and young entrepreneurs enjoyed an evening of delicious food, complimentary wine and a thrilling auction.
Distell, the main supporter of the evening (and one of the headline sponsors of Wines with Heart kindly sponsored the event with complimentary Durbanville Hills Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc for every guest. Albert Gerber, MD of Durbanville Hills was one of the special guests of the Auction with Heart and winner of the top auction item – a weekend away at the luxurious Camp Figtree Resort in Addo National Elephant Park. Other special guests included Peter and Mandy Shrimpton, founders of Heart, Sophia Warner of the Pebbles Project, Gary Shearer of Educating Africa and Emanuel Cristaudo, CRM Director of Truworths.
The event raised R45,000 for the Wines with Heart Trust.
