In early October, a group of brave souls ventured out to Gansbaai to take part in a life-changing adrenaline rush – cage diving with Great White sharks. Adrenalize, a youth development programme managed by heart, seeks to generate extraordinary change through extraordinary experiences. This event hosted 8 young men from Percy Bartley House, a temporary home for boys who are facing challenges in their lives, along with 2 employees of sponsor Grinnell Security. Kim Mclean and The Shark Lady team have been consistent partners in supporting the Adrenalize programme and they made sure the group had an exhilarating and safe experience.
During the dive the group faced at least 9 different Great White sharks, most of which were almost 4 meters long! It was an exciting and thrilling experience, and as the adrenaline kicked in you could see the boys’ focus shift from fear to excitement and fascination. The group bonded together to overcome their fears, and the dive was an amazing success.
On land again, Nico Martin, an emerging leader in the Woodstock community, and Sean Kane from heart led a life skills workshop, focusing on how the dive with sharks related to coping with everyday life in a tough community environment. These young men overcame some very powerful fears, and they now understand that the lessons learned from this experience will give them courage to face any challenge in life.
Many thanks to The Shark Lady team, Grinnell Security as well as Candice & Sean from heart.
